Lent

Posted February 23, 2007 , By Joshua LeBlanc

Well, we’re three days into the Lenten season and I’ve decided that this Lent I am giving up something that’s going to be very hard for me — the internet.  Now mind you, I’m not giving up all the internet but I am no longer going to sit on the laptop all evening as I have done in the past (I’m sure my wife will appreciate that).  No, no internet after my work hours so I am taking my lunch hour to post on my blog, etc.

Every Lent, I always try and do two things:  Sacrifice something I really like and do something extra to help build me up spciritually.  This Lent I plan to spend more time in prayer and hopefully detaching myself from my laptop will help me to do that.  I think sometimes we all get attached to something that preoccupies us and maybe even takes us away from time we should be spending with loved ones, and more importantly God.  The question came to my mind:  Does my use of the computer take away from the time I should be devoting to prayer..sadly the answer was yes.  So, this Lent I’m putting the laptop aside and doing what I should have done a long time ago - spend more time in prayer and more quality time with my wife.  It also helps that my wife has given up most of her television watching so in the evenings we can turn the tv off and actually spend time being together in an active way instead of just being in the same room together.
